Art Talk at Forre Fine Art Gallery with Sunny Bak
Saturday, September 6, 2014, the Forré Fine Art Gallery with Broward County Cultural Division in Fort Lauderdale welcomed Los-Angeles based celebrity photographer, Sunny Bak, for its Art Talk event. Guests were able to listen to Bak speak about her artwork, projects and view a collection of rare photos of well known celebrities taken by Bak in the 70’s and 80’s, including Andy Warhol, Madonna, the Beastie Boys and more. In a one-on-one talk with Tour Manager, Allan Baldwin, Bak took the Gallery and its audience through her artistic voyage and shared personal stories about her journey working with so many notable figures.
Featured artwork of the Beastie Boys, taken by Bak during their rise to fame, were displayed on the Gallery walls for guests to view while Bak described her experiences working with the American hip-hop group. She explained how many of the negatives from photos taken at this time had not been developed since their shooting and had not been viewed in 25 years. Surfacing now, these rare photos are making their way into the public light by means of Bak’s Kickstarter exhibition tour, Beastie Bak. Photos displayed of the Beastie Boys are currently still available for viewing or purchase at the Gallery.
In front of a complementing slideshow of photography, Bak spoke to guests about personal stories about her experiences with each picture taken and provided extraordinary details regarding some memorable moments about the popular figures she had the opportunity to work with. Her unexpected narratives regarding her first stages of photography left guest awed and entertained.
When asked about her opportunities with these notable celebrities and experiences, Bak simply replied that that she was just “In the right place, at the right time.”
After the Art Talk, guests were able to stroll through the Forré Fine Art Gallery on Las Olas Boulevard and enjoy the art, hors d’oeuvres and wine while they admired the various mediums of art throughout the venue and listened to music DJ’d by ADEPT Graphic Designer, Mike Merrill.
